The colder months can be tough on our bodies. The lack of sunlight and the dry air can leave us feeling run down and stressed out. But don’t worry, I’ve got your back! Here are 4 natural remedies that can help you thrive during the winter season.

Natural Remedies You Need To Know

Natural Remedy #1: Include Tumeric in your diet and skincare.

Turmeric — and especially its most active compound, curcumin — have many scientifically proven health benefits, such as the potential to improve heart health and help prevent Alzheimer’s and cancer. It’s a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. It may also help improve symptoms of depression and arthritis. I LOVE this turmeric tea – it is literally like a cozy hug for your tummy!

I add one scoop of my favorite collagen as it completely removes any joint pain and firms my skin PLUS I add rock salt for the magnesium! Magnesium is a natural anti-depressant/anti-anxiety, metabolism boost, and encourages a good night’s sleep!

Kitchen Beautician Tip: mix local honey, whole milk (or full-fat yogurt), and organic turmeric powder ~ apply this mixture on the face once a week. This is also beneficial to skin in reducing uneven tone/discoloration/melasma and acne scars.

Natural Remedy #2: Waterless Moisture

Yes, waterLESS! I know… we are told to increase our intake of water in the winter and here I am guiding you to waterLESS moisture, but stay with me (kind of like waterless moisture does on your skin, had to)

Water attracts water, so when water is in your moisture it actually pulls water out of your skin, causing a vicious cycle of dehydration! It may be why you feel you can never combat dry/flaky skin! Remove that water and add in humectants – ingredients that actually trap water inside your skin like shea butter + olive oil + beeswax – and feel your skin literally transformed! Keep your waterless moisture bar in the shower and apply to damp skin prior to drying off, it is full of essential oils that smell DIVINE and you will not believe how moisturized your skin will remain for days! I cannot encourage you enough to ditch and enrich your body moisturizer! Go grab your current body moisturizer, look at the ingredients – I bet I know what is listed first?  Let me guess, WATER? TRUST ME on this – ditch and enrich, go waterLESS!

Natural Remedy #3: Use Oil Before Your Morning Shower

Give yourself an oil massage by gentling massaging the oil into your skin in circular motions

It is not uncommon in the winter for your lipid barrier to be compromised – think of your lipid barrier as a tight window screen on the surface of your skin that serves to keep moisture in and irritants out! When it is compromised or there are holes in the screen – your skin becomes reactive (easily flushed, dry and red).  Natural oil is so beneficial prior to your shower to restore your precious lipid barrier and keep it strong!  I alternate between a couple: Carter + Jane Everything Oil  (I use this one for body) and MIG Living Happiness Oil (I use this one for face)

Natural Remedy #4: Drink Warm Water

Warm water with lemon in the morning is one of the most used and very effective remedies to get rid of belly fat ( probably could stop right here).  All you need is warm water, a few drops of lemon, and if you would like, you can add a dash of salt ( salt makes everything better plus see the benefits of magnesium above). You can even add a teaspoon of organic, local honey which has so many benefits such as wound healing and anti-bacterial properties.

Hot or lukewarm water also improves blood circulation which is important in the winter!

Adding lemon to your warm water also helps collagen absorption! So many beautiful benefits to starting your day with warm lemon water!

Kitchen Tip: Freeze lemons – then simply grate the lemon rind into your water each morning! One lemon will last forever!
