Dermaplaning is the ‘fancy’ name for it… and gosh being fancy can be fun! But what is dermaplaning exactly? Shaving!!! YES! You may be saying – Heidi, you dun lost your mind! Why would a girl shave her face by dermaplaning!!? Well, there are many reasons why……
- exfoliation
- increase skincare product absorption
- removal of peach fuzz – you are NOT a fruit
- allow makeup to go on smoother
- reduce the appearance of fine lines/wrinkles
- IMMEDIATE dewy, glowing skin
When Is The Best Time To Shave/Dermaplane?
When I shave my face by dermaplaning, my preference is at night so I’m not putting on makeup immediately after and can apply some yummy retinol or glycolic products when my skin is primed and ready to receive the goodness.
HOW TO:
- Wash your face and make sure your skin is completely dry. ( I love a cleansing oil, Kari Gran Cleansing Oil is my current fav, but there are many great ones at all price points out there!)
- Pull your hair back with a headband or elastic!
- Pull skin taut, which makes it easier. Go upwards against the fuzz! Short strokes are easier! Avoid the brows – but everywhere else is fair game!
- After shaving, apply serums or a peel. My favorite post dermaplane treatment is a few sprays of Face Foundrie’s Collagen Spritz – this spray is made from bovine collagen and works as a daily skin revitalizing booster instantly recharging your skin’s hydration levels, leaving it smooth and radiant! While skin is still moist from the collagen spritz – I like to apply MIG LIVING Blackberry Serum – it is DIVINE – I have tried a lot of serums and this one is ERRRRYTHANG! ( I use it every morning and night religiously…. it is ERRYTHANG – did I already say that?) Finally follow with a rich, nighttime moisturizer! I have a few favorites – feel free to message if you need guidance in the confusing world of moisture ( that’s a topic on its own for a blog post!)
- I like to sleep on a clean, satin or silk pillowcase post dermaplaning – simply because the skin is vulnerable with fresh cells – they are also great any and every night for your hair too! The hair will NOT grow back thicker or darker! This is also a great + safe way for pregnant women to exfoliate and fight hormonal acne.
- IF nervous or skin is sensitive – oil planing is a great option! Same as explained above yet leave your cleansing oil on as you dermaplane!
Go On, Shave Your Face
If you’re scared to shave your own face you can have an esthetician do it for you. The average price is ~$100. Definitely much cheaper to DIY. Make sure you’re using a special razor and not the kind you shave your legs with. I use Tinkle Facial Razors, or a disposable scalpel they are super easy to use and super affordable. Ok now go shave your face, you will love me forever…. like BFF Forever….. True Love kinda stuff forever…. I’ll stop.
